FAQs

Questions we hear before a project starts

What do you need to start a product review?

A short product description, your current development stage, and the biggest technical or manufacturing blocker are enough for an initial review. If you already have sketches, CAD files, PCB files, a BOM, supplier quotes, prototypes, test reports, or photos, those can help us understand the situation faster, but they are not required for a first conversation.

Can Mezz sign an NDA before reviewing the project?

Yes. We can sign an NDA before you share detailed product documents, CAD files, schematics, firmware information, supplier contacts, or manufacturing records. For the first call, a high-level description is usually enough; sensitive technical details can wait until the NDA is in place.

At what stage can Mezz join a project?

Mezz can start with an early concept or continue from an existing industrial design, CAD package, electronics or firmware work, prototype, or partially developed product. We first review the available files, current risks, and next objective, then define the appropriate engineering, validation, supplier, or manufacturing work.

What does Mezz Solutions do, and where are you based?

Mezz is a Shenzhen-based product development and manufacturing execution partner for electronics and hardware products. We support international founders, product teams, and brands while coordinating engineering, prototypes, suppliers, factories, quality, and production work in China.

How are IP, source files, and tooling ownership handled?

Confidentiality can be covered by an NDA before detailed files are shared. IP ownership, source-file rights, access, handover, and tooling ownership are defined in the applicable proposal, project agreement, or tooling agreement. These terms should be agreed for the specific project; this FAQ does not replace legal advice.

How much does product development cost?

Cost depends on the current stage, product complexity, engineering disciplines, prototype cycles, tooling, testing, certification, and supplier or manufacturing requirements. Mezz reviews the available product information and technical risks before defining scope, quotation, and practical project phases.

How long does product development take?

Timeline depends on the current project status, engineering scope, prototype iterations, tooling, component lead times, testing or certification, and supplier readiness. Mezz prepares a project-specific schedule after reviewing the scope and key dependencies.

Can I work directly with a manufacturer instead of Mezz?

Yes. A mature, production-ready product may be suitable for direct factory engagement. Earlier or troubled projects often need independent product definition, engineering review, supplier comparison, debugging, and manufacturing oversight. Mezz can provide that development and execution layer while the factory focuses on production.

Do you also support packaging design?

Yes. We can support packaging from a product-development and manufacturing perspective, including packaging structure, materials, protection during shipping, user experience, labeling requirements, supplier coordination, and production readiness. For visual brand design or retail graphics, we can work with your designer or help coordinate the right packaging supplier so the final packaging is practical, manufacturable, and aligned with the product.

Can Mezz support us after mass production starts?

Yes. Support does not have to stop after the first production run. We can help with production follow-up, quality issues, supplier communication, engineering changes, cost reduction, second-source suppliers, inspection planning, failure analysis, packaging improvements, and preparation for future versions. This is especially useful when the first launch reveals issues that need fast technical and supplier-side action.

Which engineering disciplines can Mezz support?

Depending on the project, Mezz can coordinate industrial and mechanical design, electronics and PCB development, embedded firmware, connectivity, and hardware-related mobile or cloud integration. The exact disciplines are confirmed after reviewing the product requirements and current design status.

Can Mezz help move an existing prototype into manufacturing?

Yes. A working prototype may still need DFM, BOM review, engineering validation, tooling, supplier qualification, testing, pilot production, and production-ramp planning. Mezz can coordinate these steps and resolve gaps before volume manufacturing.

How does Mezz support quality, testing, and product certification?

Mezz can help define quality controls, inspection and test plans, compliance requirements, pre-compliance work, and coordination with appropriate accredited laboratories. Certification requirements are product- and market-specific; Mezz does not act as the certification authority or guarantee approval.

Can Mezz help when a supplier is failing or tooling must be transferred?

Yes. We first assess whether the root cause is design, tooling, process control, quality, supplier capability, or project management. Based on the findings, the path may be supplier recovery, a qualified backup supplier, or a controlled tooling and production transfer.
