Quality planning should start before pilot production and mass-production ramp. Depending on the product and market, Mezz can define requirements, critical-to-quality characteristics, inspection and acceptance criteria, test plans, supplier expectations, production checkpoints, and traceability. Customers may enter during development, certification preparation, pilot or mass production, or after recurring defects or failed testing. Begin quality planning within Prototype to Manufacturing.
- Create a project-specific supplier and factory quality plan covering incoming checks where applicable, process and production-line checkpoints, visual, dimensional, cosmetic, assembly, functional, packaging, sample-review, and pre-shipment inspection criteria, documentation, and nonconformance tracking.
- Develop functional and production test methods for electronics, firmware and device behavior, hardware/firmware integration, communication or connectivity where relevant, and test fixtures; review results against defined acceptance criteria.
- Plan or coordinate product-specific reliability, environmental, durability, mechanical-stress, temperature/humidity, ingress-protection, and lifecycle or use testing where applicable; coordinate suitable laboratories and review results.
- Investigate failures through engineering and root-cause analysis, supplier or manufacturing-process review, corrective action, verification, and Product Design & Development changes when required. Quality problems should produce an engineering or process decision, not just an inspection report.
- Review product category, target market, wireless technology, power source, battery, materials, intended use, and environment; plan early EMC/RF checks where appropriate, test samples, documentation, and accredited-laboratory coordination for applicable CE, FCC, or RoHS requirements. Pre-compliance is not certification, and Mezz does not issue approvals.
